The Lord Is My Shepherd

This is probably the most difficult arrangement I’ve done so far, at least as far as the music was concerned.  “The Lord Is My Shepherd”, one of two settings of Psalm 23 in our hymnal (the other is “The Lord My Pasture Will Prepare”), starts by putting the melody in the alto and moving it to the soprano half way through.  Dealing with that in a hymn arrangement is hard, because the melody line suddenly changes and all the harmonies have to shift to accommodate it.

After struggling with that problem for a while, I decided that if I couldn’t beat the problem, I’d just join in!  You can hear the results of that decision in the introduction, which does the same thing.  I think the results were really nice.

I hope you enjoy this prelude.
