Come, Ye Disconsolate is one of my favorite hymns. Its message is so great that I’m just going to quote it:
Come, ye disconsolate, where’er ye languish,
Come to the mercy seat, fervently kneel.
Here bring your wounded hearts, here tell your anguish;
Earth has no sorrow that heav’n cannot heal.
Joy of the desolate, light of the straying,
Hope of the penitent, fadeless and pure!
Here speaks the Comforter, tenderly saying,
“Earth has no sorrow that heav’n cannot cure.”
Here see the bread of life, see waters flowing
Forth from the throne of God, pure from above.
Come to the feast of love; come, ever knowing
Earth has no sorrow but heav’n can remove.
I wrote this arrangement to help me through a situation that deeply saddened me. The words teach eternal truths: no matter how sad we are, no matter how much we think we have strayed, no matter how offended we have been, no matter who has offended us, nothing can separate us from the love of God! The arm of mercy is always extended towards us and we can find peace through the atonement of Christ.
This arrangement would be a great prelude. I hope you enjoy it and can use it in the Lord’s service.
